Style News | 3 Steps To Creating A Customized URL

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

I recently switch my Blogspot Dot Com to a Dot Com. I want to take my blog to the next level and a Dot Com has a more professional look.

Another reason I brought my own domain, is I own it and it belongs to me. It will also be easier for people to remember a Dot Com. Even with my own domain, Blogger will continue to host my site.

I also wanted to get a customize shorten URL, so I could turn my big URL into a smaller format. Shorten URL's allow you to track how many clicks  you receive on that URL. You can also brand your personal or business URL to make it look more professional. If you are posting a link on Twitter... Shorten your URL will allow more characters.

Customize Shorten URL:

  1. Go to Domai.nr and search for a customized URL. Then purchase a domain... I Want My Name or Go Daddy are two sites to buy domains. Use this domain for shortened your URL. Make sure the name you choose is less than 15 characters or Bitly will not allow you to customize that URL.
  2. Sign up for a free Bitly account and created your customize domain. Now you will be able to set up that customized URL and view stats on short links that you have created. (Mashable)
    .
  3. Go to the site where your domain is registered and set your DNS host for your URL to  point the IP address to bit. ly. (I Want My Name)
The Con: Once you delete your customized Shortered URL, the Bitlinks will no longer work, because the domain will not map to bitly
